Humptulips Kings 10-30-11

I fished the Humptulips  with my dad Saturday  10-29-11 and Sunday 10-30-11 .
The graph was going straight up Friday night and it looked like the river was going to blow out, but we decided to check it out, and I am glad we did.
The river had gone up to 1,700 that night. We had less than a foot of vis  and a bunch of leaves in the water Saturday morning but the river was dropping and clearing fast, by noon we had perfect conditions and the fish were on the bite we caught several kings with a few bright chums mixed in  the river was full of chum. Our catch rate was about 65% bright kings 35% dark
The river had dropped all the way to 950 Saturday night  before beginning to rise again on Sunday. The river was on a steady rise all day on Sunday and  it was begining to color a bit by the end of the day, but the fish did not seem to mind. We again caught several  kings and a few chum but our catch rate was nearly 100% bright fish and we had some big ones mixed in. the fish were spread throw the whole river on Sunday and seemed to be on the move. We had our best results on eggs but we also hooked a few fish on jigs.

Westport Tuna 10-23-11

I  fished Westport  on 10-24-11 with my dad Chuck, Scott, Matt, and Nick.
Although the bar had large breakers on the north and south sides on the way in and  out  the ocean conditions were great!
If I had not looked at the calendar I would have thought it was the middle of July.
Most of the water out on the tuna grounds was a nice blue color and the  temp from the beach to 125.05 was all running about the same  57.3 deg  with a few small patches of 57.9 which made finding the fish a bit more  difficult than normal.
Our morning started off very slow. We searched all over with very little sign of  life, then Wayne on the see Ya  gave us the call we were hoping for.
Thanks for the help Wayne!
They had good birds , were marking  lots of fish, had jumpers and were hooking up!
After a quick fuel calculation we were on our way. We spotted a few single jumpers on our way, but could not get them to bite. We quickly gave up on them and were back on our way. When we arrived at Wayne’s location  we found  scattered schools of tuna and lots of birds. We worked that area   for the rest of the day and ended up boating 28 tuna.
It was another great day on the water.

Satsop 10-22-11

I fished the Satsop with my dad Chuck and friend Cory on Saturday  10-22-11 the fishing was good but not great
It was rainy and windy all  day.
The  river was rising very fast all day and was full of leaves from top to bottom witch made fishing a bit difficult
We ended up catching a few silvers, a few kings and a few chums and even had one double.
We had our best results on eggs, but did hear of several fish hooked on plugs.

105 Westport Tuna 10-15-11 and 10-16-11

105 cold water tuna!

I fished Westport on Saturday and Sunday 10-15-11 and 10-16-11
We had  a five man crew both days. I was joined by:
Mike L, Rob S, Matt S, Jeff N, and Bob H.
We had good weather and  good ocean conditions both days but,
it did get a little bumpy midday on Sunday.
The conditions were better than excellent if you factor in that it was the middle of October!
We fished near guide canyon both days. On Saturday we started  out at 125.05  and found 58.5 degees  and lots of life, birds and scattered jumpers.
We were catching fish at a steady pace when we got the call that it was wide open  several miles south east of us.
It was time to make the call, do we leave good fishing to try to find great fishing or do we stay where we are and hope it goes wide open.
With  not enough time in the the day to return to our location if the gamble did not pay off I reluctantly  make the call to move.  We left  birds,  scattered jumpers and biting fish in hopes of something even better. I was second guessing myself the whole way.
When we arrived at our new location just outside of the 124.40 line we had blue water and a temp of 58.8
The birds were diving everywhere  and there were lots of  jumpers, It was game on!
We instantly hooked up all five rods and went to work! We worked the school till we ran out of bait then switched to the troll. ZZZZZZZZ!  The tuna were eagerly biting our troll gear  but not wanting to cross the bar in the dark on a strong ebb we left a nearly wide open bite and headed for the dock. We ended the day with 53 tuna landed and several lost.

On Sunday we headed back to where we had left off the day before but the temp had dropped over two degrees
It was  56.2 and  green with small patches of blue. The birds were still there but they were scattered. we went on the troll  and it took a while to hook our first  fish, but when we did we went  right to the live bite and the bite was on! we landed over twenty fish on our first stop but the bite fizzled and died.
We trolled the area for a while longer without any luck. Again a  call comes across  but this time they are catching good numbers of fish 8 miles outside of us and they have got better water color and a little better temp. we trolled our way out to them, catching a few singles along the way.
When we arrived at their numbers we found 57.9 degrees, working birds and a really nice batch of jumpers. We slid into the jumpers with live bait and everyone was hooked up instantly . we worked that school  till we ran out of bait then switched to the troll. We  trolled the area for a while catching a fish or two every time we crossed the mark till we decided to head  in. Not wanting to cross the bar in the dark  with a strong ebb  we ended the day with 52 tuna.

Live bait accounted for most of our fish this weekend but we also did well trolling  x-raps and swim baits
It was a great weekend of fishing!  105 tuna landed,  good weather and the best mid October tuna fishing I have every seen!

Humptulips 10-8-11

I fished the humptulips with my dad on October 8th and 9th  the water levels were perfect and the weather was great.
The fishing was quite a bit slower  than last week but still very good!
we hooked several kings each day and a couple silvers.
The majority of our kings were dark but we were lucky enough to  get a few bright ones each day.
There were several bright silvers in the rivers but it has been very difficult to get them to bite.
There was a ton of pressure on the river this weekend but  most of  the people were very  friendly and seemed to be able to fish very  well  with each other.

Humptulips 10-1-11

I fished the Humptulips  on 10-1-11 and 10-2-11
I was joined by Cory B.  on Saturday and  Rob S. on Sunday.
The river conditions and weather were excellent  and the overall fishing was great! We hooked many  kings each day and had several doubles.  The majority of our fish were dark but we fished hard and were  able to find a few bright ones.  We saw a few  fresh silvers  rolling in the river but we were unable to get them to bite. We didn’t  see any silvers caught  all weekend but  I did hear of a few.
