Hatchery steelhead

Matt s and I fished  the wynoochee on Saturday 12-29-12 the water was at 2,000 and on a steady drop.
We had  4 feet of vis and a nice green tint.
There was a lot of pressure on the river  this weekend, it wasn’t easy  finding open water to fish  but everyone seemed to be in a friendly mood  which makes things a lot  nicer when conditions are crowded   There seemed to be a good number of  fresh fish in the river  and most boats seemed to be getting a couple chances .We ended the day with three hookups two on jig and bobber and one on a plug.  Sunday we left the drift boat at home and worked one of the smaller streams  conditions were perfect but there did not seem to be a ton of fish around.  We fished hard and were able to get three nice fish, two on jig and bobber and one drift fishing shrimp.
With no major rain in the forecast conditions should remain good for the near future.

Hatchery steelhead and silvers

Matt S and I fished one of the small coastal rivers Saturday 12-15-12.  The water was a nice steelhead green color with 3 feet of vis. The river was on a slight rise from the days rain and had a bit more color at the end of the day then we started.
We fished hard all day and were able to hook 3 winter run steelhead and 3 late run silvers. We caught our steelhead on jig and bobbers and had our best results on Coho while twitching river bend jigs.

Humptulips silvers and steelhead

Cory and I fished the Humptulips on Sunday 12-9-12 the water was at 1,900 CFS  with 2 feet of vis most of the day . There was not much  pressure on the river on Sunday but even with the lack of pressure the overall fishing was  still on the slow side. We fished hard and were able to scratch up some silvers and one steelhead using  a combination of Eggs and plugs  but  there still  seemed to be a lack of fresh fish in the river.

Humptulips Silvers 11-17-12

Ed and I fished the Humptulips Saturday November 17.
It rained hard in the morning and the river was on the rise all day but, it  did not  blow out till after dark  Saturday night. The overall fishing was good but not great. We were able to catch our limits of nice bright hatchery silvers but were not able to find any kings. It feels like the main part of the king run is over for this year.  We did not see many moving fish and only  saw a few fish roll all day. We did see a fair number of silvers caught but, my gut feeling was there were not many fish in the river but, what was there seemed  to be biting  well.

Humptulips salmon

Brian S and I fished the Humptulips on Saturday 11-10-12 and Sunday 11-11-12 . The river was in great shape and should have been fishing very well, but  had a surprisingly slow tone to it this weekend. There did not seem to be many fish in the river. We did not see hardly any fish rolling or caught, and we were not able to spot any  fresh fish moving up river.  We  fished hard and were able to catch our  limits both days and  most of what we caught  were nice and bright, but I would  still consider  the overall fishing to be  very slow. We caught our fish on a combination of  egg and bobber and jigs and also heard of a few fish caught on spinners.

Sekiu Silvers

Mike L, Eric C, Joe and I fished Sekiu Sat  10-13-12 and Sunday 10-14-12
Saturdays weather was very good overcast and flat calm but  it was a much different story on Sunday
On Sunday the wind was howling 40 to 50 knots and the rain was pounding down. It was hard to decide if the sheets of blowing salt water or the pouring rain were worse, but one thing’s for sure It was some of the most difficult conditions I have ever salmon fished in.  Even with the poor conditions on Sunday  there  were still plenty of willing biters and we did not have any problem catching our limits
The overall fishing this weekend  was very  good . We had very fast action on midsized silvers
The fish were spread out all over the water column we caught fish from the surface down to about 400 feet
We had our  best  results on Herring, buck tails, hoochies and the ace hi fly but I am sure that many other lures would have worked also.

October Albacore @ Westport

We fished Westport Saturday Oct 6 and Sunday October 7
The overall weather and water conditions were very good
There are still plenty of tuna out there  but the fishing has definitely slowed.
The  water temperature has been slowly  dropping and it’s getting tough to find anything over 60 degrees, but there is still plenty of blue water around.
The troll bite has been on the slow side and the fish have been very boat shy, but if you can get them to go on the live bait; which has not been easy to do,  there is still the chance to catch some huge numbers  of fish.

Westport Tuna Sept 22 & 23

We had an five man crew at Westport this weekend Eric C, Scott P, Don C, Wade and myself. The weather was excellent this weekend  flat calm seas and almost no wind, but we did have about 10 miles of thick  fog Sunday morning. We had a great weekend of fishing , we landed 76 albacore and had some really big ones.Although our overall results were very good, the fish were being a bit difficult this weekend. The fish were not hitting our troll gear and they seemed very boat shy, but we kept after them and finally got them to bite.

PEI Giant Bluefin Tuna

PEI Bluefin Tuna!!!!!

Wow what a trip!
Jeff N., My dad chuck and I went on the trip of a life time! This was the best fishing I have ever seen!
I knew these fish were going to be big but they looked much bigger in person then I ever thought they would!
We spent the week fishing with Spencer Norton of tight line tours I really enjoyed fishing with Spencer if you are considering a trip like this I would highly recomed you book with tight line tours
We landed fish on stand up gear every day! It was a lot of work but a ton of fun!
Our smallest fish was over 700 pounds and our biggest one was over 1,000 pounds.
It was awesome to hand feed 700 to 1000 pound fish at the edge of the boat, they were taking the bait right off the boat hook!

Click on the large photo of me below to see underwater video of 700 to 1,000+ pound fish feeding at the side of the boat
