Thanksgiving Coho

Mark G and I fished the Humptulips on 11/28/13 and the Chehalis on 11/29/13

The Humptulips was  running at 600cfs  very clear and on a slow drop.
The fishing pressure was very light and it was a good thing because there did not seem to be many fish around. We had to work at it harder then I would have liked, but we were able to catch some very nice silvers. Most of our fish were caught while fishing egg and bobbers .

The Chehalis was at 2,800 cfs and slowly dropping,  even with the low flows the water was still very dirty with only about 2 feet of vis. The overall fishing was fair  we hooked 6 nice bright silvers while casting spinner and saw a few others caught.
With this latest blast of rain that came in Sunday the steelhead fishing should be good for the next few days.

Late November kings & silvers

Matt S and I fished two  Grays harbor rivers this weekend the rivers were running at medium to low flows, very clear and dropping fast. The morning temps  were in the 20’s which was less than ideal, but the overall weather was  good and the fishing pressure was light.  There did not seem to be very many fish in either river,  but most of the fish  were bright and what were there seemed to be biting well. We covered lots of water and ended up with  nice batches of fish each day. We had our best results on a combination of egg and bobber and river bend twitching jigs. I expect most of the rivers to remain slow till we get some more rain.

November Silvers

Aaron L and I fished a couple of the Chehalis tributaries this weekend
The overall conditions were very good. We had 6 feet of visibility and the rivers  levels were relatively  stable both days. Light fishing pressure added to our results this weekend.

On Saturday  the  fishing was on the slow side but we fished hard and ended up catching 4 silvers, one king, and a few chum. we caught most of our fish on egg and bobber, but also had hook ups on plugs and jigs.

On Sunday things started out very slow, but really picked up as the day went on. By mid afternoon the fishing was very good and stayed that way for the rest of the day.
We ended up catching several nice bright silvers and one chum. The fish seemed to be in a very aggressive mood on Sunday we watched multiple fish chasing after our lures as we were working our way down stream. On Sunday  we had are best action while fishing river bend twitching jigs.

Humptulips / Satsop salmon

I spent the weekend fishing with my dad.
On Saturday  we fished the Humptulips. The river conditions were great  and the fishing should have been excellent, but it wasn’t. It felt like it was between runs.
The river had just dropped back into shape Friday night and was in perfect condition. It started at 1,700cfs in the morning and dropped to 1,300cfs by the end of the day. The river was a nice green color with about 3 feet of visibility. There did not seem to be very many silvers in  the river and there were even less kings, but the few that were being caught were bright. There were a fair number of chum in the river to keep things interesting but the overall fishing was very poor.  We had our best results on bobbers and eggs, bobbers and jigs and plugs.

On Sunday we fished the Satsop. The river was in great shape . we had 5 to 8 feet of vis depending on the areas and the water was on a steady drop (1,500 -1,300cfs). The river was full of chum! There were lots of chum in the whole river, a fair number of bright silvers and a few kings. There were so many chum in the river that it made catching the silvers and kings a bit more difficult then usual, but they were there for those were willing to work at it. We had our best results on eggs and bobber, River bend twitching jigs, and jig and bobber.

Humptulips & Satsop Salmon

We fished the , Humptulips and Satsop  October 19th & 20th.
The  water conditions were very low and clear on both rivers.  The overall fishing was slow, but we had great weather conditions for spending a weekend on the rivers. The early mornings were cool but it warmed up nicely in the after noons.
We floated the hatchery drift on the hump on Saturday. The river was at 350cfs  we had to drag the boat in a few spots but the overall drift was not too bad.
There were a good number of  dark  silvers holding in the deeper holes but it was very difficult to get them to hit.We kept after them and ended up catching a decent number of fish and even found a few keepers but the overall  fishing was on the slow side.

On Sunday we floated the Satsop. There did not seem to be many fish in the upper areas but the numbers seemed to improve as we moved down river.
We ended up hooking a fair number of fish and even managed to catch a few bright ones but the overall fishing was  slow. We had our best results this weekend twitching river bend jigs, fishing bobbers and eggs, and throwing spinners. A blast of rain would help fishing conditions a bunch but it does not look like there is much rain in site.

Humptulips Salmon

Cory B and I fished the Humptulips  Saturday and Sunday October 12 & 13TH
The water was low & clear and running at  500cfs. The overall fishing was on the slow side, but we managed to catch silvers and kings both days. On Saturday we  floated the hatchery drift.  There were a fair number  of dark silvers and kings holding in the deeper holes but they were a bit on the skittish side. We fished hard and managed to hook a good number of fish and even found a few bright ones but I would still call the overall fishing slow.
On Sunday we fished the lower river in hopes of  finding brighter fish. The fishing on the lower river was very slow. There were a bunch of boats and not many fish caught. There did not seem to be many fish in this section of the river. We only hooked four fish on Sunday but all four were ocean bright. We had our best results this weekend fishing eggs and bobbers and twitching river bend jigs.
I would expect the fishing to continue to be slow till we get another blast of rain.

PEI GIANT BLUE FIN TUNA!!!!

I just got back from a trip to PEI with my dad Chuck and friend jeff N.
This was a trip of a life time!
We fished 6 days with spencer from Tightline tours.
We caught several blue fin tuna in the 700 to 1,000+ pound class.
It is amazing to see these fish feeding right beside the boat.
If this is not the best fishing in the world I would love to know where it’s better!
