Hot salmon fishing at Westport!

The salmon fishing was very good this week at Westport. We are catching easy limits of both kings and silvers.

Our best area this week was in 220 feet of water just south of Westport. the depth on the riggers has been moving around a bit one day it’s the top 40 feet the next you need to be right on the bottom and the next it’s 80 feet on the riggers, our best results have been on flasher and hoochies but bait and spoons have been working well also.

The bigger summer fish are here and we are seeing a good number of fish over 20 pounds.

the bottom fishing has been good when the weather allows us to get to them, but we have been  running a long ways to get into the fast action that I like.

westport salmom & bottom fish

The weather on Sunday at Westport could not have been any better! It was flat calm  and sunny most of the day.

The overall fishing was very good but we saw everything from dead slow to smoking hot fishing over the course of the day The salmon fishing was very good near the south bowl in 170 feet of water. Our best depth on the riggers was 45 feet for both kings and Coho and the whales were putting on one hell of a show, sometimes I bit closer then I would have liked! The salmon were biting well on herring and hoochies but I am sure they would have bit on many other items also. The bottom fishing started off very slow, it took us a while to find them  but when we found them it was red hot! We ended the day with limits of salmon, rock fish and  a  very nice batch of near shore  lings.  The lings were biting best on purple label herring.

ilwaco salmon & bottom fish

We fished ilwaco 6-20-15 It was very windy and choppy all day long  but luckily there was not much of a swell
The wind made fishing a bit tougher then I would have liked but we still ended up with a nice batch of fish, black rock fish, yellow tail, salmon, lingcod, true cod, sable fish, and flounder.

The salmon fishing has improved a lot this week with many people catching limits in 300 feet of water south west of the CR buoy.

Westport lingcod, halibut, and rockfish

We fished Westport Sunday and Monday 6-14-15 & 6-15-15

The overall weather this weekend was not great, especially Sunday.  The wind blow hard all day and really had things churned up out there.

Luckily the poor weather conditions did not  seem the effect the fishing too much. On Sunday we were able to catch easy limits of nice lings, 3 halibut and a bunch of bass

On Monday we had to work a bit harder but we still caught our limits of nice lings, 2 halibut and a batch of bass.

We caught most or our fish this weekend on darts and lead head jigs. The salmon fishing was very slow this week and there is a bunch of jelly fish out there which makes it even worse. I expect the salmon fishing to improve very soon. The salmon reports have been much better at both Neah bay and La push.

ilwaco lingcod and bottom fish

we fished ilwaco Saturday 6/13/15  the ocean conditions were very poor ( rough most of the day) the overall fishing was a bit on the slow side but we stuck with it and were able to grind out  limits of nice lings and a nice batch of yellow tail rock fish most of our lings were caught on pipe jigs while  most or the yellow tail were caught on shrimp flies
The salmon fishing was very slow this weekend and I do not expect it to pick up anytime soon. The best salmon reports in the area were  coming  from just south of the CR buoy .

Westport near shore Halibut, Lings, & Bass

With the early closing of the deep water halibut season at ilwaco we took a detour to Westport for near shore lingcod and rockfish

The overall weather this weekend was very good,  it was a bit foggy Saturday morning and the wind did come up late in the afternoon on Sunday.  Our fishing results were very good this weekend. On Saturday  we caught our limits of lingcod (one really big one) lots of bass and three nice halibut. On Sunday the fishing was a bit slower but still very good. We had nice batches and lings and bass and  4  good sized halibut. The bass were not biting very well for use this weekend we were marking tons of them but really had to work at it to get them to bite. The lingcod seemed to be coming in batches, at times it was very good and other times It was very slow. The  nice sized halibut this weekend was a huge bonus and more than made up for ilwaco being closed.

We did not salmon fish this weekend but the reports at Westport were very poor.  Hardly any salmon were caught. I would expect the bottom fishing to continue to be good and the salmon fishing should start improving soon.  The salmon reports from both Neah bay and ilwaco were much better then Westport this week.

I have some open spots in the next few weeks june 12 (2 spots), june 14th (one spot), june 20th (one spot), june 21 (one spot)

ilwaco halibut, salmon & sable fish

We fished ilwaco Friday, sat and Sunday this week the overall weather was very good.

We spent most of our time focusing on halibut this weekend. We were able to catch our limits each day and even found some sable fish and salmon.

The bottom fish have been biting on both jig and fresh bait if you’re using bait make sure its fresh the better the bait has been the better the fish have been biting.

The salmon bite has been on very early but has not been lasting long, make sure you are out there early if you’re after the salmon! Cut plugged hearing has been working best for us

I expect the salmon fishing to get better and better in the next several weeks and the bottom fishing should remain good in the next few weeks

We are getting  close to catching our halibut quota for the year at ilwaco so I will be rebooking some of my halibut trips for salmon and bottom fish trips or near shore halibut
