Costal steelhead 3-24-12 & 3-25-12

Matt S. and I fished one of the  coastal rivers this weekend.
The conditions were perfect! Sunny and warm with almost no wind. We could not have asked for a better weekend!
The water had been high for almost two weeks and dropped back in just in time for us to fish it.
The water had 3 to 4 feet  of visibility  and was slowly clearing and dropping all weekend
We hooked a total of 28 steelhead, landed 22 and also caught several good sized cutthroat
Most of our fish were in the 6 to 7 pound range but we did get a few bigger ones in the low to mid teens
We caught a little over half of our fish on jig and bobber and the rest on drift gear.
This was a great way to start off the first weekend of spring!

Central Washington trout March 10 & 11

Cory and I spent the weekend fishing a couple of our favorite central Washington trout waters. The overall conditions were good in the mornings but got quite windy in the afternoons with gusts  over 30mph both days. There was not much surface activity this weekend but we were still able to catch lots of trout in the  1 to 4 pound range with our biggest being  a nice 6 pound rainbow  and we also had one  much larger get away after a great fight.
The majority of our fish this weekend were rainbows but we also caught a couple tiger trout and one brown.

Victoria Halibut March 3 & 4 2012

We launched from Port Angles and  ran over to the Canadian side near  Victoria for our first halibut trip of the year.
We had to deal with some 30+ kt winds and a healthy population of dog fish, but we fished hard and were rewarded with a couple of nice halibut.  The overall halibut fishing seemed a  bit slow  this weekend, but we did  see a couple other halibut caught. We had our best results on a combination of salmon and herring.
