ilwaco halibut, sable fish & shark sighting

We  had  great  fishing at ilwaco this weekend

Our main target this week was halibut but we were also able to catch nice batches of sable fish and flounder too.

The overall weather was good with the exception on Saturday when a very stiff wind from the south had us rocking and rolling pretty good.

The highlight of the week was a rare shark sighting, this big boy swam a few laps around the boat after helping himself to one of the sable fish we were reeling in.

We may have interrupted his meal ( we spotted a dead seal in the area)

 

 

 

 

 

Giant Halibut, Big Lingcod, and lots of bottom fish at Neah bay!

We had a great weekend at neah bay this week

I always enjoys seeing so many good friends  and  great people when at neah bay.

The overall weather was excellent this weekend ,it could not have been much better.

We fished for a bit of everything:  off shore halibut and lings, sekui halibut and near shore lings and bottom fish.

The overall fishing was very good, we did need to search around a bit to find biters but when we found them fishing was very good.

Westport halibut and lingcod

We had a great time at Westport Tuesday

The overall weather was very good but it did get a bit foggy at times

When considering the good water, the fishing was a bit on the slow side this trip, I expected to kill them but instead we had to work very hard for our fish we stuck at it and ended the day with a very nice batch of fish

Jigs were working best for the lings and the halibut seemed to like the fresh bait best.

 

 

 

 

 

Neah bay halibut lingcod and sea bass

The weather was   very poor at Neah bay this weekend

The fishing was great when we could  get to where we wanted to fish  but we had to play a lot of duck and hide from the weather this weekend

Fridays  fishing was great , but Saturday and Sunday we were not able to fish where I wanted   to due to the weather but we were still able to find some nice fish.

The weather forecast is looking much better for this weekends  neah bay halibut derby  (added bonus this year’s winners gets free moorage for next year’s halibut season)
