Mixed bag at ilwaco this weekend
The overall weather was great this weekend, small swell, and
not much wind, could not have asked for better weather
We had a lot of variety this weekend: tuna, salmon, lingcod,
Cabazon, and rock fish.
On Saturday we started
for tuna I knew the fishing had been tough the days before ( I think the
large moon may have been having an effect) but with two first time albacore
anglers on board it was worth a shot. Like I thought the fishing was very tough
we ran all over the place but were not able to find any of the massive schools
we were looking for. There was a small bite that come on at 3pm and we were able to scratch up nine tuna and both of our first times were able to land some. The bite died again shortly and we ran in and picked up a few lings and some rockfish.
On Sunday we shifted gears and started the day salmon fishing. we ran up to long beach in 30 feet of water and it was game on. It was some of the fastest silver fishing I have seen! Start dropping the line out and fish on! start dropping the next line fish on! Start dropping the next line fish on! No need for rods holders!!! It did not take us long to get our 10 silvers! We had 8 hatchery and two wild. One word or caution there are a bunch of crab pots in the area and many of them have hundreds of feet of extra floating line hanging off of them. Many of the boats were getting entangled in these lines.
After salmon fishing we
made a quick run for bass. The currents were running pretty good but we
stuck with it and were able to catch our limits of bass, some lings and
Cabazon.
I expect the silver fishing to remain good for the next week
or so or the next big rain whichever comes first.
