Hoh Steelhead

I fished the Hoh with two of my friends on Saturday 12-24-11
A blast of rain late Friday night colored the river on Saturday.
When we launched the boat we had about 12” of vis and an unusual brown tint. As we moved down river the visibility  got worse rapidly.
within the first mile we had less than 6” of vis and it stayed that way all day.
We fished throw the poor conditions and ended up hooking three  steelhead.
All three of our fish were hooded while free drifting bait

Hoh Hatchery steelhead

I fished the Hoh on Saturday 12-17-11 and  Sunday 12-18-11
On Saturday I was joined by Greg M, and Joe Q .
On Sunday I was accompanied by Roger S
Our overall weather and water  conditions were very good. The river was very low,  near 900 on Saturday and  1,000 on Sunday after a small batch of rain late Saturday night.  The river color was a milky green / white  and the  visibility was about 18 inches.
The overall fishing was very good we hooked 16 steelhead, 1 ocean bright Coho and A few dollies
We had our best results while drift fishing and free drifting, but  we also caught a few while fishing bobber and jigs.
The river felt very fishy this weekend. We saw several other fish caught,  and most anglers we talked to  were  also doing very  well. I expect the hatchery steelhead fishing  on the Hoh will continue to be good as long as these low water conditions last.

Small stream silvers and steelhead

Matt and I fished one of the small coastal streams on
Saturday and Sunday 12-10-11  &  12-11-11
Unfortunately due to a camera mishap there will not be any pictures this report
The Overall weather conditions were very good this weekend, but the lack of rain in the last week made for very  low river levels.  The fishing was very good this weekend we hooked 10  steelhead and 12 silvers. The Steelhead were all very bright and the  silvers were 50% ocean bright and 50% dark, their just did not seem to be anything in between.
We caught all of our fish  on a combination of jigs,  with and without bobbers.
The overall feel for the weekend was that there was a good number of both steelhead and silvers in the river and I would expect  the fishing to continue to be good in the near future but it would be a big plus if we could get a little bit of rain.

Humptulips steelhead & silvers 12-3-11

I fished the Humptulips  with Rob S on Sunday 12-3-11
The overall weather and river conditions were excellent
The river was near 1,100  and slowly dropping with 3.5 feet of vis and a nice steelhead green color.
We had steady action most of the day on a mix of both ocean bright and dark, silvers and steelhead.
We hooked most of our silvers twitching jigs and most of our steelhead on bobbers and jigs, but we also had some action on both eggs and sand  shrimp.
My overall feel for the weekend was that there were a fair number of both bright and dark silvers spread throw the river and a few steelhead for those willing to work at it.

Grande Ronde Steelhead 11-27-11

I fished the Grande Ronde  with Mark G on Saturday and Sunday
11-26-11 and 11-27-11
Our weather and fishing conditions were excellent.
The temperatures were cool, but with very little wind it was warmer then I had expected.  Another bonus  was it did not rain or snow a drop on us all weekend!
The river was running from 900 to 800  with 4 feet of vis and slowly dropping most of the weekend.
We hooked 23 steelhead and  several chunky trout that kept us more than entertained  all weekend
The fish seemed to be evenly spread  in good numbers throughout the river.
We caught our fish using a combination of drift fishing, free drifting and bobber and jig.
The abundance of wild life; big horn sheep, deer, coyote, and misalliance critters  added to the already spectacular scenery and created an incredible atmosphere this weekend.

Humtulips Silvers and kings 11-20-11

I fished the Humptulips with Tom F and Sean J, on Sunday 11-20-11.
The fishing was good but not great
The river conditions were perfect, 4 to 5 feet of  vis and a slight green tint
The river was on a slow drop from 1,200 to 1,100 and had just recovered from the heavy rains it received on Wednesday.
The below freezing temps in the morning made even the easiest of casts very challenging. It was a constant fight with the freezing  rods, eyes, reels and line until the sun came out later in the day
We hooked a even  mix of silvers and  kings. Most or our fish were dark but we were able to find some bright ones. Both the silvers and kings seemed to be spread throw the whole river and there did not seem to be a huge quantity in any one spot.
We caught our fish on a combination of eggs, spinners and jigs
